What is Another Place?
You've probably been there but you don't remember.  You might have pictures of it from when you were last there all those long years ago.  It's a place not so different from our own and all it takes to get there is you.  Remember what it's like to swim through the skies of Another Place, to run along the ocean floor, to find adventure and mystery everywhere you look.
Here in this journal, we will record those memories and discover Another Place all over again.

Daenerys Targaryen

I can't quit drawing Game of Thrones characters in Emberley's style (mixed with my own take as well!).  Who's next?

Jon Snow

In anticipation of season two of Game of Thrones, I made poster in the style of Ed Emberley, one of the most influential artists of my life.  My parents would buy my brother and me all of his "How to Draw" books and I would spend hours creating characters and stories.  My kids are enjoying his books now and I so enjoy watching them draw, giving life to their characters and ideas.

I like how Mr. Emberley makes drawing anything very simple by breaking it down into simple shapes.  It's fun to turn circles, squares, and triangles into people and stories.  Thank you Ed.

A The ABCs of Michael Startzman

"The ABCs of Michael Startzman" will feature a letter from the alphabet and an illustration based on something prominent in my life pertaining to that letter.  I started where all things start...at the beginning.

A is for Andy Panda.

My father has been writing phone poems for quite some time now.  A lot of the poems feature animals and more than a few feature Simon, my dad's newest dachshund.  Lately the poems have been featuring a new animal character who goes by the name of Andy Panda.  As in panda bear.  I've been thinking about different ways to draw Andy and all of his poetic adventures and finally sat down to draw him late one night on my iPad.  The illustration turned out in a different style than I had in mind but I just went with it and you can see what I came up with below.

Not 2011

I just realized all the drawings I've been posting with my signature on them are dated 2011.  Ha! I guess I haven't gotten used to writing 2012 yet.

I believe I've finished the Fire Light drawing this morning.  I added all the color and I'm pretty happy with the final result.  I'll be making an announcement regarding the image too some time this weekend.  Hopefully sooner rather than later.  But for now, my kids are calling me to come outside.

Work in progress - Fire Light

Here's a look at a drawing in its early stages.  I had an idea I wanted to try and so far it's coming along nicely.  I'm thinking this might be my print for March if all goes according to plan.  I'm happy with it so far but it's far from over!  I'm calling her Fire Light for the time being.  Her story will unfold when the image is done.
